I provide clients with extensive experience in criminal law. Before I opened my own practice, I served Coryell County as a prosecutor and as first assistant district attorney and Bell County as Chief Juvenile Prosecutor. I have a comprehensive understanding of Texas criminal law and procedure and know how prosecutors and state attorneys prepare for trial. Over the course of my career, I have handled over 1000 criminal cases, either as a prosecutor or a defense lawyer.
Though I approach the preparation of every case as if it will go to trial, I encourage clients to use alternative means of dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation and the collaborative law process, if doing so is in their best interests. I negotiate in divorce matters and handle plea bargains for criminal defendants. I also handle mediation and will represent clients in collaborative proceedings.
I am known throughout the courts in which I practice as an aggressive and highly competent advocate for my clients. I handle all types of claims, from simple misdemeanors or family law disputes to high profile criminal cases and complex marital property settlements.
I also work regularly with Texas foster parents who want to work with the system set up by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to legally adopt a foster child.
I am Board-Certified in Family, Criminal and Juvenile law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. To become Board Certified, attorneys must meet a minimum, 60-hour requirement of TBLS approved courses in the specialty area. The TBLS also requires attorneys to pass a specialty area examination.
